Sam Bush

Sam Bush, the Father of Newgrass, has done as much as anyone to bring bluegrass in line with other forms of music. Songs he has recorded over the years that appear on this CD include “The Sinister Minister”, “Seven By Seven” and “Scotland”. He has a spectacular mandolin role on “Big Foot” and brings the house down with the charged “Reuben’s Train”. His 2022 CD, Radio John, was also in the bluegrass vein and continues Sam’s progressions in this field of music. Inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2020 and 2023, he has won three of the 14 Grammys for which he has been nominated. In 2009, he received a Lifetime Achievement for Instrumentalist from the Americana Music Association. He has been named IBMA Mandolin Player of the Year four times. The city of his birth, Bowling Green, Kentucky, declared a Sam Bush Day in honor of this Kentucky mandolin player.

Debutants

The Debutants are a bluegrass/guitar collective out of Fort Wayne, IN. We will be featuring their music this week with a mix that takes their guitars, mandolin, banjo, 2 fiddles, cello and upright bass to new heights. We are big fans of their original songwriting, especially for their own band, songs such as Every (Damn) Day and I Wish I Had An Airplane, and also their incredible harmony work. One of our favorite mash ups we have done is with a bluegrass version of the song Shadygrove, and layering in Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall. They are now releasing traditional bluegrass as well as some modern music that fans of all types of music can enjoy. We have known founding members Lynn Nicholson and Jon Swain to be friends for many years, bringing high energy music to the stage. We have no doubt they will bring you a great show in preparation for our headliner, Bush.
